Kia Magentis design preview

Kia has unveiled a set of design sketches that preview the upcoming Magentis/Optima model, set to debut at the 2010 New York Auto Show. The D-segment sedan will be longer, larger and lower than its predecessor and will have a bold and sporty design.

Mercedes-Benz Design Sculpture "Rising Car"

At the 2010 Detroit Motor Show Mercedes-Benz has presented an automobile sculpture that portrays a concept car body taking form and rising from a liquid surface. The artwork hints at the brand's design language evolution for the next future models.

The sculpture, named "Rising Car", represents a Mercedes-Benz Concept body taking soft, flowing form from liquid - or as if it was covered by a "shimmering cloth" draped over.

The nature-inspired artwork has been revealed at the 2010 Detroit Motor Show and gives hints on the evolution of the brand's design language, with art-deco elements inspired by the 1930's.

In particular, it could preview the general lines of the next-generation CLS four-door coupé, that should be unveiled within this year.

Bentley Design charity art auction

Bentley Motors has organized a charity auction of individual art pieces created by the carmaker's Design Team. The collection includes brush paintings,digital artworks, photograps and sculptures, which use both traditional and contemporary styles.

Symposium Advanced Automotive Design

On 25 Semptember 2009 Delft University hosted a Symposium on automotive design which saw the participation of Adrian Van Hooydonk and other designers from Pininfarina, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Alfa Romeo. A video coverage is available.

The symposium 'Advanced Automotive Design' which took place on 25 September 2009 was one of the highlights of the 40-year anniversary of the Faculty of IDE (Industrìal Design and Enginering) at Delft University.

Speakers, all IDE alumni of the TU Delft, during the symposium were: Adrian Van Hooydonk (BMW), Lowie Vermeersch(Pininfarina), Fedde TalsmaWouter Kets (Audi), Sarkis Benliyan (Mercedes), Ramon Ginah (Alfa Romeo), Doeke de Walle(Pininfarina), Bart van Lotringen (DAF) and Bart Janssen Groesbeek (Ducati).

The panel discussion was moderated by Joris Luyendijk (known from his columns in NRC Handelsblad and the Dutch TV-show 'Zomergasten') while the introduction keynote was done by Stephen Bayley (e.g. author of 'Cars' and columnist for the English 'CAR Magazine').

Chrysler, New Heads of Design

Chrysler Group LLC has announced new appointments within its Product Design organization, led by Ralph Gilles (in the midle), Senior Vice President of Design.

The new Heads of Design for Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep will be respectively Brandon Faurote (in the left), Joseph Dehner (in the right) and Mark Allen.

Brandon Faurote (in the left) was appointed Head of Chrysler Design. In this position, Mr. Faurote will be responsible for all design activities for Chrysler-brand vehicles.

Joseph Dehner (in the right) has been appointed Head of Dodge Design. In this position, Mr. Dehner will be responsible for all design activities for Dodge-brand vehicles.

Mark Allen was appointed Head of Jeep® Design. In this position, Mr. Allen will be responsible for all design activities for Jeep-brand vehicles.

Timothy Anness continues as Head of Advance Design. In this position, Mr. Anness will be responsible for all interior and exterior advance packaging design activities for all Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles.

Klaus Busse continues as Head of Interior Design and Component Commonization. In this position, Mr. Busse will be responsible for all interior design activities for Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles.

Brandt Rosenbusch continues as Car Curator to the Walter P. Chrysler Museum and Historical Collection Coordiator.

VW Passat CC Wins Design Awards

Last night in Essen, Germany, The VW Passat CC four-door coupe was presented with the "red dot Design Award 2009 - Best of the Best".

During the ceremony held at Aalto Theater in Essen Martin Kropp, designer at Exterior Design Studio 1, accepted the "red dot Design Award" for Volkswagen.

On last March the Passat CC, first unveiled at the 2008 Detroit Motor Show, was awarded the prestigious "iF Product Design Award 2009" in Hanover.

At the end of May the coupé also won the renowned "Australian International Design Award" in the "Automotive and Transport"category.
