Honda Odyssey Concept

At the Chicago Auto Show American Honda has unveiled the next-generation Odyssey minivan, which previews the 2011 production model and combines a more dynamic design with enhanced fuel efficiency, interior roominess and versatility.

The exterior design is characterized by the steeply raked front and rear roof pillars, unique side-glass profile, chamfered roof line, and tapered rear cabin shape, which are combined to create a dynamic and distinctive appearance from any perspective.

Honda HSV-010 Testing

Honda Racing has recently been spotted testing the HSV-010 at the Suzuka Race Track in Japan. Some spectators even snagged some great test video of the screaming formula-one-esque V8s shaking up the bleachers.

Some have said the exterior styling could be that of a projected revival of the NSX… but most (including Honda) say not a chance. Judging by the level of detail from this test subject it should be interesting to see what could end up on future production vehicles.

Honda is experimenting in many exterior styling motifs that many of the high end exotic cars have employed. Extreme tumble home sheering, as if taking a cheese cutter to a block of clay at an angle, then finishing it off with a sweet little DLO graphic.

Honda designers have even brought in a bit of bangle-ism/ Lexus L flare in the rear lamp design; accentuating the extreme funnel shape the car takes while pulling in all of its shape complexity; ranging from soft edges of the front attributes, to harsh body lines and shoulders that pull the car back as if in a sling shot while standing still.

Honda P-NUT Concept

At the 2009 LA Auto Show Honda has unveiled the P-NUT Concept (Personal-Neo Urban Transport), a design study of a futuristic city coupé developed by the company's California-based Advanced Design Studio. Among the features are the 1+2 seating layout and the aerodynamic body.

Created by the Advanced Design Studio of Honda R&D Americas, Inc. in Los Angeles, the Honda Personal-Neo Urban Transport (P-NUT) design study model is a futuristic ultra-compact city coupe.

The packaging concept integrates a center driving position configuration (1+2 seating layout) and a rear powertrain layout.

The exterior styling leverages crisp angles with dynamic flowing lines that originate from the front of the vehicle and span outward toward the rear.

“A new generation is discovering the benefits of living in urban centers that provide convenient access to business, entertainment and social opportunities,” said Dave Marek, director of advanced design for Honda R&D Americas, Inc.

The interior layout, in conjunction with the rear powertrain design, contributes prominently to the exterior’s overall shape.

The modular rear engine bay, depicted on the exterior by blue composite material, is designed to accommodate a wide variety of potential propulsion technologies including a conventional small displacement internal combustion engine, a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain, or a battery-electric powertrain.

Honda EV-N Concept

The Honda EV-N Concept is an small four-seat eletric car inspired by the 1960's N360 micro car. Among the highlights are the replaceable seat fabrics, a solar panel roof and a communications system integrated in the front fascia.

The EV-N is a small, 4-seater battery electric vehicle, inspired by the N360, Honda's 360cc micro car launched in the 1960s. It is powered by small electric motor, connected to a lithium-ion battery pack.

It features solar panels in the roof, which could be used to charge the on-board battery. The cabin has repleaceable seat fabrics and the passenger door integrates a UX-3 personal device.

The front fascia integrates a communication-system which makes use of lights hidden behind the grille. According to Honda, the EV-N is purely a design study and there are no plans for production.

The EV-N Concept will be presented by Honda at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show at the "HELLO! Zone" (Honda Electric mobility Loop), a showcase for the company's latest electric vehicles and technologies.

Honda CR-Z

Here's another instance of Honda calling a car a concept when it's actually mere inches away from production. This is the 2011 Honda CR-Z, and it is a reborn 1983-92 Civic CRX. It goes on sale in Japan in February 2010, with the U.S. following a few months after that.

Compact and sleek, this 161-inch long coupe/three-door hatch was first shown as a real concept at the 2007 Tokyo Auto Show. Now two years on, the 2009 show car is "95 percent" of the real thing, according to Honda officials. The final, final production version will be unveiled at the 2010 Detroit Show in January.

We know that the 2011 CR-Z will be powered by a 1.5-liter i-VTEC inline-4 combined with Honda's IMA hybrid powertrain, tied to a 6-speed manual gearbox -- essentially the sportiest drivetrain setup the company has offered in a hybrid to date. However, we still think it's likely that Honda will broaden the appeal of the CR-Z line by offering several drivetrain options -- perhaps a price-leader base model with just the 1.5-liter gas engine and perhaps, perhaps a CR-Z Si with a slightly larger, revvier engine.

The CR-Z's busy, compact 2+2 cabin is now virtually production ready and it's believed the car's Ni-Mh battery pack lies beneath the rear floor, as per the Honda Insight, on which it's is based. Even the wheels on this "concept" look production-spec, and if the "lack" of exhaust pipes on the CR-Z gives you pause, just have a look at the tail of a production Insight.

Honda Skydeck Concept

Set to debut at the next Tokyo Motor Show (24 October - 4 November 2009) the Honda Skydeck Concept is a design study of a 6-seater hybrid MPV characterized by the combination of B-pillarless design with scissors front doors and sliding rear doors.

To give the Skydeck the practicality of a conventional MPV, many of the hybrid system components – including the high power battery – are housed in the car’s centre tunnel (rather than behind the rear seats or under the floor, as with previous production hybrids). This allows for greater cabin space, and the room for three rows of two seats. It also gives a lower centre of gravity.

"This is still a design study, but is a great example of how Honda’s IMA technology can be placed in a range of different cars for different needs."

The Skydeck could preview a replacement modelf for the European FR-V, which has a six -seat layout with two rows of individual seats.
