Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept

At the 2010 North American International Auto Show Cadillac has unveiled the XTS Platinum Concept, suggesting a new paradigm for the luxury sedan of the future, characterized by a number of technological features, including a plug-in hybrid propulsion system.
The XTS Platinum Concept was designed from the inside out, re-imagining the luxury sedan as a personal headquarters, built for efficiency, luxury and connectivity.
The concept introduces a new approach to in-car electronics that improves the form and function of the car’s entertainment, navigation and information systems.
“The XTS Platinum concept is the next expression of Cadillac’s Art and Science execution philosophy, reflecting our drive to deliver the latest innovations in the most artful manner,” said Bryan Nesbitt, Cadillac general manager.
“We envisioned this concept as an automotive personal headquarters, using advanced technology to enable new levels of connectivity and luxury.”
The XTS Platinum Concept uses Cadillac’s 3.6L V-6 Direct Injection gas engine, paired with a plug-in hybrid system. The plug-in technology enables the battery to fully charge from a standard electrical outlet, enabling pure electric propulsion in many driving situations, especially urban commutes in which fuel efficiency may double that of a conventional hybrid.

2011 Infiniti M

The third generation Infiniti M flagship sedan will be launched in the European market for the first time. The brand's halo car is to be released in the US first and poised to take on its German rivals in their home market from September 2010.
Infiniti M is the luxury flagship saloon that will step up its game to take on the European market for its third iteration.
With that in mind Infiniti emphasis that this executive class auto is a more exclusive alternative to the usual 5-Series and E-Classes.
The front-mid mounted V6 petrol, diesel and later hybrid with rear wheel drive doesn’t sound much different to most of the competitors, but, this setup works so well in this market sector.
The features that will please the “indie” crowd will have to come from elsewhere.
At Infiniti, automatic air conditioning is to be known as “Forest Air”, which claims to promote alertness and relieve stress with the subtle scent of forest.
There is a long list of equipment including such highlights as; Blind Spot Intervention, drive mode selector, Active Noise Control and Downshift Rev Matching. As this sort of gadgetry is to be expected at this level, the real differentiation needs to be in the design.

Volkswagen New Compact Coupe

Presented at the 2010 Detroit Motor Show, the Volkswagen New Compact Coupe is a concept car that features an efficient hybrid drivetrain with a 7-speed DSG and a well-proportioned design with similarities with the Audi model line-up.
Volkswagen’s New Compact Coupe is said to have class-leading dynamics, achieves 45 mpg.
The new hybrid-powered compact coupe concept car has a top speed of 141mph and accelerates to 60 in 8.1 seconds.
Looking quite a bit like a mini-A5, one wonders if VW is again stepping on Audi’s toes with this concept.
The similarities to currently available Audi products can be seen in more than one spot and from more than one angle.
Audi/VW could be guilty of a simple case of quasi-self flattering, but–very likely–Audi execs find it to be disconcerting. Cannibalism or not, at first glance, it’s pleasing to the eye.
The compact coupe has a solid stance, handsome profile, appropriate proportions, and very well resolved surfacing.
All this encapsulates a gas-electric hybrid drivetrain mated to a 7-speed DSG… and its driver will be quite comfortable in what appears to be a well laid out, cleanly detailed, and nicely appointed interior.

Mercedes-Benz Design Sculpture "Rising Car"

At the 2010 Detroit Motor Show Mercedes-Benz has presented an automobile sculpture that portrays a concept car body taking form and rising from a liquid surface. The artwork hints at the brand's design language evolution for the next future models.
The sculpture, named "Rising Car", represents a Mercedes-Benz Concept body taking soft, flowing form from liquid - or as if it was covered by a "shimmering cloth" draped over.
The nature-inspired artwork has been revealed at the 2010 Detroit Motor Show and gives hints on the evolution of the brand's design language, with art-deco elements inspired by the 1930's.
In particular, it could preview the general lines of the next-generation CLS four-door coupƩ, that should be unveiled within this year.

Kia Cadenza

The new Kia Cadenza sedan is the production version of the KND-5 Concept unveiled at the Seoul Motor Show. The model, which will be named K7 in Korea and Amanti in the US market, maintains the dynamic and sculptural exterior design and features LED position lights.
The distinctive ‘tiger nose’ front with its signature grille and headlights are evidence of Kia’s new self-confidence, and the traditional three-box sedan shape was retained, but was morphed into a more flowing design with a drag coefficient Cd of just 0.29.
The innovative treatment of light is a constant design theme.
At the front, second-generation LED position lights are used to define the width of the car and the shape of the headlamps.
At the rear, the combination lamp clusters also feature LED position lights which, together with the dual mufflers integrated into the bumper, enhance the new Cadenza’s sporty appearance.
Although the new Cadenza is shorter than the Opirus, the extended wheelbase (up by 45 mm to 2,845 mm), additional exterior width and more compact rear suspension come together to ensure that the interior offers occupants more space than the old model.
Body & Chassis: Four-door, five-seater sedan, with all-steel unitary construction bodyshell. Powered by transversely-mounted V6 gasoline engine driving the front wheels.

Audi e-tron Detroit Concept

North American International Auto Show 2010 The Detroit showcar Audi e-tron shows another variant of an electric vehicle developed by Audi.
The Detroit showcar Audi e-tron is the second electric concept vehicle from Audi just a few months after the debut of the Audi e-tron at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The concept is 3.93 meter (154.72 in) long and 1.78 meter (70.08 in) wide but just 1.22 meter (48.03 in) tall. The car wheelbase is just 2.43 meters (95.67 in) – 22 centimeters (8.66 in) shorter than the R8.
Thanks to the adoption of the ASF aluminum lightweight structure with carbon fiber-reinforced composite body panels the total weight has been limited to 1,350 kilograms.
The powertrain adopts two electric motors mounted on the rear axle that deliver a combined output of 150 kW (204 hp) and 2,650 Nm (1954.54 lb-ft).
The e-tron Concept accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in just 5.9 seconds and from 60 to 120 km/h (37.28 - 74.56 mph) in 5.1 seconds.
The Detroit showcar Audi e-tron is able to distribute its electric motors’ high torque between the wheels entirely as required (“torque vectoring” technology).
Thanks to its low weight, short wheelbase and 40:60 weight distribution for dynamic handling, the Audi e-tron has all the drivability of a go-kart.
Lithium-ion batteries, located for an optimal center of gravity behind the passenger compartment and ahead of the rear axle, make an effective energy content of 45 kilowatt-hours available. This makes an operating range of up to 250 kilometers (155.34 miles) realistically possible.
Among the highlights is the advanced thermal managementequipped with a heat pump, which provides an efficient way of heating up and maintaining the interior temperature.
